Rochelle Costanza has been a professional horse trainer and riding instructor for over 20 years. Much of her clientele are people with green horses of every breed that are brought to her to break and/or train to become pleasurable mounts or to be marketed and sold. She has been involved in the sport of eventing for over 10 years and has ridden to the two star level on her horse “Enchanted” which she broke and trained on her own. She was long listed for the Olympics in 2005 and received her ICP Level II certification in June of 2009.
As a teen, she was a working student for various hunter/jumper barns and broke horses on the side. She mentored with her aunt who was a professional horsewoman and learned how to break and train young horses. Growing up in Arcadia, CA, the home of Santa Anita racetrack, Rochelle had the opportunity to work with many retired racehorses and retain them to become sport horses.
Rochelle graduated Cal Poly University with a B.S. degree in Equine Science. At Cal Poly, where she lettered in Equestrian sports, she was captain of the horse show team as well as a part-time instructor for the University riding school. At the same time she was attending college, Rochelle had her own small business of teaching riding lessons and training horses.
In her mid twenties, Rochelle took an internship in England at Patchett’s Equestrian Centre to study for her BHS (British Horse Society) degree. Throughout her 7 month stay in England she passed her BHSAI exam and was introduced to the sport of eventing. It was then when she decided that eventing “was the coolest thing ever” and from that point forward eventing became the main focus of her equestrian passion.
When Rochelle returned from England in 1996, she married her long time boyfriend Nick Costanza and they moved to Colorado together to start an equestrian business. In 2000 they purchased a large equestrian facility near Denver and it is there that they currently own and operate Platinum Farms, LLC. Platinum Farms is the home to 40 plus horses and Rochelle’s training program that includes 30 students and several horses in training. The main focus for the team is on the sport of eventing where Rochelle and her students attend 14 plus USEA recognized events per year including the American Eventing Championships.
Currently Rochelle has two new mounts; Jericho (barn name Kadet), a 9 yr. old Thoroughbred gelding who she moved up to the preliminary level at the end of the 2009 season. Jericho is currently being leased out to a long time young rider student of hers for the 2010 season. Rochelle looks to continue Jericho’s training in 2011 and move him up through the levels. In addition, she owns Lionhart (barn name Liam), a 4 yr. old Holsteiner gelding whom she recently competed at the novice level. Lionhart has shown a great deal of promise as a future upper level event horse and Rochelle looks forward to working with him over the next several years. |
