2009 was an interesting year in competition for Samsons Fire and Leanna Merchant. They started out the year with a 2 day, 50 miles/day race in British Columbia as preparation for a 100 mile FEI qualifier for the World Equestrian Games. Samsons Fire finished the 100 in 11 hours 28 minutes which is a qualifying time to compete for Canada and also achieved best condition at this ride! They also did a couple more 50 mile races before heading East to Ontario to do a 75 mile FEI race. Unfortunately, with the travel and other factors, Samson tyed up at this race and is just coming back into form now. The major learning curve for a horse at this fitness level rides a fine line between completing the distance and not. Kerrits gear keeps me comfortable for a lot of miles every year.
