Aarene Storms
Owns Horse(s): yep! A lovely 8-year-old standardbred mare. I also ride my sweetheart's cute little arab mare.
Primary discipline of riding: Trails (riding and building them!) and Endurance
How often does she ride: 3-4 times a week
Why she is a Kerrits Ambassador: I believe in supporting good products and vendors that supply good equipment at reasonable prices. Equestrian apparel can be crazy-expensive and foolishly flimsy at times, but Kerrits isn't like that. One of the details about Kerrits apparel that I've always appreciated is how durable it is. As an AERC TrailMaster, I spend days in-and-out of the saddle, hauling equipment up to worksites and then using it--I don't want to have to carry extra work clothes along with everything else! I travel a lot of miles in my Kerrits tights, hopping off the horse periodically to use shovels, rakes, loppers or pulaskis to fix or re-route a section of trail with the rest of the crew. My tights don't tear, snag, or run. My Kerrits jacket has kept me warm and dry for years--which is not an easy task in the wet swampy country where I live and ride.
Her Goals: As a professional librarian, I work to connect kids and teens with books, and I try to make that connection as much fun as possible. Recently I was featured as a "bobblehead pirate librarian" in a short animation piece to promote summer reading. Unusual antics like that are the best parts of my job. Personally, it's all about the horses, and about connecting people with trails. Without trails there are no endurance rides, so my friends and I recruit and work with adults and teens year-'round to build and maintain sustainable trails that can be used by hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
Her Kerrits Story: Having fun is important to me--and if I'm wearing uncomfortable clothing, it's difficult to have fun! That's why I wore my Kerrits tights as part of the costumes for pirate and parrot--they fit well in the saddle and on the high seas.
